Have you ever tried to cook something but the item you have is not in the measurements you need? Maybe all of your measuring cups are dirty and you need to measure in spoons (hey, it's happened to me). Maybe you have a European cookbook (or American etc.) and you want to convert those measurements into ones you can understand.
Or how about this great example. On the Mrs. Meyer's Laundry soap, which is a liquid, it says to use 2 oz for a normal wash load. Well how much is that in say tablespoons? Cups? Well it's actually 1/4 Cup and 4 Tablespoons.
Well without further ado and for your measuring pleasure I've listed some common measurements for those times that you need to substitute. Enjoy.
* oz are liquid ounces 4 Cups = 2 Pints = 1 Quart (and if you're talking powdered sugar 4 Cups = 1 pound)
2 Cups = 1 Pint = 1 Pound (liquid)
1 Cup = 8 oz = 16 Tbsp = 48 tsp
3/4 Cup = 6 oz = 12 tbsp = 36 tsp
2/3 Cup = 5 1/3 oz = 10 Tbsp = 32 tsp
1/2 Cup = 4oz = 8 Tbsp = 24 tsp
1/3 Cup = 2 2/3 oz = 5 Tbsp = 16 tsp
1/4 Cup = 2 oz = 4 Tbsp = 12 tsp
1/8 Cup = 1 oz = 2 Tbsp = 6 tsp
And just in case you need to figure out a chocolate recipe in squares or cocoa here are those measurements.
1 square of chocolate is = 1 oz = 3 Tablespoons of cocoa + 1 Tablespoon of butter
Enjoy Cooking!
